The Australian Cyber Security Centre’s (ACSC) annual cyber threat report for July 2021 to June 2022 underscores the significance of endpoint security in a strong cybersecurity posture. The report highlights a concerning trend of attackers targeting endpoints as an entry point to networks, with attacks including ransomware, malware, and phishing. Additionally, the ACSC notes that these attacks can have serious consequences, such as data breaches, financial loss, and reputational damage. The report also highlights the following key findings and statistics:
- The ACSC responded to 2,363 cybersecurity incidents in the past year, representing a 13% increase from the previous year.

- Malware remained a common threat, with the ACSC observing over 3,600 malware incidents in the past year.
- Phishing attacks continued to be a significant threat, with the ACSC observing over 9,400 phishing incidents in the past year.

Frequency of Cybercrime reports
The fiscal year 2021-22 saw a substantial increase in reports of cybercrime submitted through ReportCyber, with over 76,000 incidents reported, marking a rise of almost 13 percent from the preceding fiscal year. To put it in perspective, a cybercrime report was lodged approximately every 7 minutes on average, compared to every 8 minutes recorded in 2020-21.
